Physical therapy can help to reduce pain and improve muscle strength and flexibility. Medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids may be prescribed to reduce inflammation and pain. In some cases, injections of corticosteroids may be used to reduce inflammation. Lifestyle changes such as avoiding activities that cause pain, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding repetitive motions can also help to reduce symptoms. Surgery may be recommended in some cases to remove the affected muscle.
