Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy type 3 (APECED) is a rare, inherited autoimmune disorder that affects multiple endocrine glands. It is characterized by the presence of autoantibodies against the body's own tissues, leading to the destruction of the endocrine glands and the production of hormones. Symptoms of APECED can include hypoparathyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, and hypogonadism. Other symptoms may include chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, alopecia, and vitiligo. Treatment typically involves hormone replacement therapy and immunosuppressive medications.
